These Boots Are Made for Walking

Hanna’s path over Haiti took the shape of a boot, kicking and beating the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Ike tore through Cuba before threatening Galveston with certain death, only to jog slightly at the last minute sparing us the wild casualties. Ike did inflict massive material damage, reverberating the violence and suffering we are now mainlining. Add the train wreck, the plane crash, the 9/11 memorial, the bank wars... and you have a streaming flow of horror.

There is a book of proverbs you open on any page. Here is the insight it has to offer on the subject:

One cannot conquer the evil in
himself by resisting it…
but by transmuting its energies
into other forms.
The energy that expresses
itself in the form of evil
is the same energy
which expresses itself
in the form of good;
and thus the one may
be transmuted in the other.

Thanks Charisse,

There has to be a way to cut down the violence.
